Orthopedics

Orthopedic surgery or Orthopedics is the branch of surgery concerned with acute, chronic, traumatic, overuse injuries and other disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The vast universe of Orthopedics explores the well-being of joints in the human body, covering illnesses and accidents causing bone fractures that can disable an individual and prevent them from living pain-free.

  • The Department of Orthopedics is well established in our institution and covers all sub specialities including trauma, arthroplasty, arthroscopy, spine surgery and pediatric orthopedics.
  • We also provide round the clock emergency service in trauma and accident care.
  • Well established operation theatre with modern equipments to perform all types of surgery including multiple fractures and spine injuries.
  • Learning is through routine classes as well as bedside teaching.
  • The teaching programme is rigorous and requires residents to attend classes every day of the week. This culminates in the Grand Rounds, where cases from the previous week are discussed and analysed.
  • Students also have access to other related departments such as spine, arthroscopy and orthoplasty, making the training relevant and whole.
  • The department closely collaborates with Radiology, Pathology, Oncology, Microbiology, Orthotics, Prosthetics and Physiotherapy.
  • The department provides access to the Advanced Learning Center (ALC), where at the Surgical Skills Lab; residents can practice dissection on simulators.
